Program structure

Our Business is not to Graduate MSc and PhD Students in Socioeconomic Studies only, but rather bring Graduates that Eliminate Poverty and its Spillovers Globally.

Program structure

This PhD in Inspiration Economy (PhD-IE) program is built based on a set of ‘Modules’ that runs for a minimum of 3 years for Full-Time students, and more than 4 years for Part-Time students. The modules are designed in a way that it helps the program advisors and the main academic partners to deliver and measure the intended learning outcome (ILOs) within 36 months. In general, all the modules are weighed the same credits, except the final module, which is a graduation project (called the inspiration lab project). The project should run for two academic years (18 months) with each consisting of two semesters.

The programme has a unique way of delivery and assessments. The program modules are based on the possibility that 50% of it would be based on campus attendance, 50% on the field and research, besides online and self-study. The practical side of this PhD program is that it depends on how much the student would be contributing to the targeted community through what is called ‘Inspiration Labs’, which are focused projects on a particular problem or potential development opportunities. For example, tackling particular socio-economic issue. The students would learn to take a holistic approach, but still focus on bringing solutions from a specific perspective, for example, from the perspective of differential diagnosis, or observations, or behavioural economics, etc.

Each of the proposed modules, even the non-core ones, has a type of ‘inspiration lab’ embedded in it as part of the module completion requirement. Hence, the PhD student has a chance to be an expert in ‘inspiration labs’ through the repeated challenges in each module taken during the period of 36 months of the program or more.

The programme will have Total 30 modules, including Thesis to be examined in the 6th semester, as follows:

  • • First semester - (5) modules – credit hours as per Rwanda-HEC
    • Second semester - (5) modules- credit hours as per Rwanda-HEC
    • Third semester- - (5) modules- credit hours as per Rwanda-HEC
    • Fourth semester - (5) modules credit hours as per Rwanda-HEC
    • Fifth & Sixth semesters - (10) modules credit hours as per Rwanda-HEC
